SUSTAINABILITY IN LUXURY FASHION

SUSTAINABILITY IN LUXURY

SUSTAINABILITY IN LUXURY

The Ask

For this project, I was asked to analyze a chosen topic and explain how it has influenced the economy, both historically and today, using key economic terms and concepts from class. By examining its impact on the fashion industry and forecasting future effects, I developed a clearer understanding of how economic shifts shape production, employment, and consumer behavior in fashion.

Key Skills

The Process

  1. I kicked off my project by presenting to my professor a bold exploration of how sustainability is transforming the very foundation of the luxury fashion industry.

  2. Once my topic was approved, I delved into the world of sustainability practices, exploring how they have become a defining force in today’s fashion landscape and a blueprint for the industry’s future.

  3. Next, I explored the roots of sustainability, tracing how early organizations took the first bold steps toward creating a more responsible and conscious industry.

  4. I delved into today’s sustainability initiatives, evaluating their economic significance, and uncovered how brands like Chanel, Burberry, Ralph Lauren, and Cartier are leading the charge in redefining luxury for a responsible future.

  5. Finally, I reflected on the future of luxury fashion, predicting a stronger embrace of sustainability and eco-conscious practices as brands strive for both ethical and innovative excellence.

The Outcome

The outcome of my project on sustainability in the luxury fashion industry gave me a deeper understanding of how environmental and ethical considerations are transforming the way luxury brands operate. Through my research, I explored how companies like Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Burberry, and Cartier are integrating sustainable practices into their business models. These brands are implementing initiatives such as sourcing eco-friendly materials and increasing supply chain transparency, all while maintaining the quality and craftsmanship that define luxury fashion. Analyzing these efforts through an economic lens helped me recognize that sustainability is not only a moral responsibility but also a powerful driver of innovation, consumer trust, and long-term profitability. This project revealed that the future of luxury lies in balancing tradition and exclusivity with responsibility and awareness, reinforcing my passion for the intersection of fashion, business, and sustainability.

Below I’ve included some of the different elements that I featured in my project, as well as a link to the full project.
