ACTIVEWEAR LINE PROJECT
JOLIE À PARIS ~
JOLIE À PARIS ~
The Ask
For this project, I was tasked with selecting an inspiring country and collaborating with an existing brand to design a fall/winter activewear line grounded in the nation’s culture, environment, and design influences. Guided by this research, I created a mood board, color palette, original patterns, and color-ways that shaped a cohesive collection reflecting the country’s essence.
About My Project
I chose France as my inspiration because I’ve always been drawn to the country’s timeless beauty and cultural influence. The French Renaissance, in particular, stands out to me as a period rich in art, fashion, and elegance. Through my project, I aimed to capture the femininity, sophistication, and refined aesthetic that define both France and the Renaissance era in a more modern way.
Key Skills
The Process
1. I selected a country as the central inspiration for the collection, analyzing its culture, environment, and visual identity. I also researched current fall/winter activewear trends, studying consumer preferences, fashion forecasts, and competitor offerings to guide the design direction.
2. Partnering conceptually with Frenchlime, I created a mood board that translated research insights into visual themes, textures, and lifestyle references. This board served as the blueprint for color, shape, and overall aesthetic choices throughout the collection.
3. I curated a six-color palette inspired by the mood board to reflect seasonal trends and brand identity. Simultaneously, I traced six shapes from the different photos on my mood board.
The Process
4. Using the six shapes I traced, I created custom patterns that ensured precision in construction and proportion. These patterns were created with the colors I picked. to represent the country I had chosen.
5. I then traced flats of already existing garments that I wanted to incorporate. I then filled those flats in with my different patterns, and created multiple versions with different color ways of those patterns.
6. I designed eight garments, incorporating functional details such as seams, stitching, and closures, with each available in three colorways. Fabric selection and fiber content were finalized to balance performance, comfort, and aesthetic quality.
7. I determined pricing, MSRP, and delivery timelines to align with seasonal retail schedules. All production and design details were finalized, resulting in a cohesive, market-ready activewear collection.
The Outcome
The outcome of this project was a fully developed fall/winter activewear collection that captured the cultural essence of my chosen country while aligning with current market trends. Through this process, I gained valuable experience in translating research and inspiration into tangible design decisions, from color and pattern development to garment construction and presentation. I learned how to balance creativity with functionality, ensuring each design was both visually cohesive and commercially viable. Additionally, managing details such as textiles, pricing, and delivery timelines strengthened my understanding of the business side of fashion design and the importance of creating a collection that is not only aesthetically strong but also market-ready.
